What is the 'Language Exchange Share House' ??
The Language Exchange Share House is a community made up of English speakers who are eager to improve Japanese and Japanese speakers who are keen to improve English. Our goal is to turn daily life into an intensive learning experience.
~Live with locals and learn Japanese!!~
Wouldn't you think it's much better if you are in a community where people help each other to improve their language ability any time and it is in where you live?
This is a house for those who...
・Are serious about becoming more proficient in Japanese
・Want to belong to a local community
・Have a lot of acquaintances, but few local friends
I have realized that many foreigners in Japan have a number of common difficulties with life here. I thought it would be very nice to have a comfortable community that would foster a feeling of belonging and cultivate a positive environment for language learning.
If it sounds good to you, I hope that you will join Ienaka-Ryugaku, Language Exchange Share House!
How I came up with this idea.
As a student, I lived in several Asian countries for two years in total. This was a very stimulating period in my life that left many lasting impressions. Whatever I did and wherever I was, my antenna was highly sensitive.
But after the first few months in a country, I would get used to most things. I'd say that's the tipping point whether you will make it or break it: whether you can achieve your goals in Japan or you will end up with just enjoying.
Looking back, the most fruitful time that I spent abroad was when I could talk and share something deeply with local people (especially in local languages).
I have interviewed many foreign friends and they said that it’s difficult to belong to some local community or to make friends who understand them in Japan. Sometimes they can speak for a few minutes with someone, but rarely do they have the chance to talk about something deep in their heart.
Then I thought it would be great if there were a community of people who all share the same goal of improving their proficiency in foreign languages.
It would have to be only for those who are passionate about languages. I believe that will make its quality better and make life more inspiring.
Why not shift your learning opportunities from the classroom/office to your daily life? Why don't you make the most of this community and achieve whatever your goals you have with us.
Bring excitement into your house!
This is Ienaka-ryugaku.
★Looking For Members★
The project is currently recruiting a little more members.
We are now seeking prospective residents who are interested in the concept.
☆As of February 1st 2014, there is one available room, and we are expecting to have a few more by April☆
What kind of people should live here?
People who set their goals high and who are highly motivated to improve their foreign language proficiency.
This is an environment for those who want to improve language ability from daily conversation level to as much as you can. Residents should be able to communicate without big problems both in Japanese and English. For English speaker, JLPT N4 or equivalent.
How different from other guesthouses?
Guesthouses around Tokyo are nice place to stay for a while. You will see a lot of people and you can enjoy meeting new people!
Here in the share house, people stay here longer term and most of them are working in Japan. Members do not change dramatically unlike guesthouses so that we know everyone much more and it has more composed atmosphere.
If you are looking for an environment in which you can experience Japan more profoundly, this share-house may be the right place for you. Not just superficial conversations, but ones with substance. The language will be the means for you to dig deeper.
What we do in the house
☆Weekly Language ☆
You are encouraged to communicate in the language with the other members of the share house the whole week. If it's English week this week, next week is Japanese week.
To communicate one another, we once in a month set a chance to have meal together or to have a meeting to talk about something casual.
If you organize it, it will happen! Bring your friends and hang out in the house!
Give a presentation in your target language. Build your vocabulary, speak with grammatically correct sentences and practice a lot! In this way, you will speak very naturally soon.
Feel free to contact us via "CONTACT" on our website.
